• Technical inspections and storage management

This surge in demand is not merely inertial but a direct consequence of the conflict: the closure of key airspaces has forced airlines to reroute flights, leading to an unplanned increase in flight hours and engine cycles. Recent data from EUROCONTROL and Reuters indicate that the need for technical inspections and storage management at European facilities has grown because aircraft originally destined for Gulf routes are being placed under active preservation programs on European soil to prevent deterioration during prolonged grounding. Furthermore, the disruption of spare parts supply chains from Middle Eastern hubs has saturated European workshops, increasing turnaround times for overhaul services in an operational emergency context

Airports with existing MRO capabilities—or the ability to scale them—are better positioned to capture this demand.

This trend highlights a broader shift: MRO capacity is no longer a static asset, but a strategic capability that must adapt to global operational changes.

Fokker Services Group,  the independent aviation aftermarket company, is now building a wide-body aircraft hangar in close cooperation with Gaptek, a leader in modular architecture.

 With planning, development and preparations finalized, Gaptek has now started the modular hangar construction on-site, which will take just 12-14 weeks to complete. The design is based on Gaptek’s patented lightweight system, which is fast to assemble and disassemble, and easy to relocate. The aluminum construction reduces CO2 emissions up to 21% compared to conventional steel structures.
