Gaptek and Nanocarbonoids SL Join Forces to Develop an Innovative Ballistic Protection System under the ACTIVA STARTUPS Program

Oct 8, 2024

We are pleased to announce that Gaptek has partnered with the startup Nanocarbonoids SL as part of the ACTIVA STARTUPS program to drive the innovative research project:

“Manufacturing, characterization, and validation of graphene-doped ballistic protection plates for optimizing the ballistic protection of self-supporting buildings.”

In conflict zones, there is a growing need to develop technology that enables the ballistic protection of people inside a building. Moving beyond the usual ballistic protection systems that use concrete, steel, or ceramic materials, the Gaptek and Nanocarbonoids collaboration proposes introducing protection plates based on a graphene-doped nanocomposite material, thus enhancing resistance while adding minimal weight to the structure.
This project meets the need by offering a cost-effective and easy-to-implement solution for rapid deployment installations. It represents a cutting-edge advancement in the sector of buildings that house humanitarian aid. In addition, this innovation will contribute to reducing CO2 consumption, aligning with sustainability initiatives.

The research project will last six months, from April 2024 to September 2024.

This project is part of ACTIVA STARTUPS’ efforts to promote the adoption of Industry 4.0 and foster collaborative environments between technology companies and industrial businesses. It aligns with the Spain Entrepreneurial Nation Strategy, which aims to drive open innovation and startup growth through collaboration. The program is managed by the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI), responsible for managing and processing the grants.

The project has received a grant of €39,847.20, which will fund the research and development of this innovative technology.
